The rear brake drum acts as the friction surface for the rear braking system. This drum is suitable for all late Baywindow models using the 5×112 wheel pattern and is not compatible with earlier wide-5 (5×205) setups.

Fitting notes & best practice

• Although sold individually, we strongly recommend replacing rear brake drums in pairs to prevent uneven braking and imbalance across the axle.

• Before installation, it is essential to thoroughly clean the inner braking surface with a good quality brake cleaner. The drum is coated during manufacture with an anti-oxidising oil to prevent corrosion in storage, and this must be completely removed before fitting.

• We also advise carrying out a full inspection of the braking system at the same time, including brake shoes, wheel cylinders, return springs, and adjusters, replacing any components that show signs of excessive wear or damage.

Replacement rear brake shoe set for all VW Baywindow Buses from August 1972 through to the end of production in 1979. These brake shoes are supplied as a complete set of four to service both rear wheels on one axle.

The rear brake shoes are a key part of the drum brake system.
