High-performance 72 plate external oil cooler with integrated 228mm electric fan, designed to provide maximum oil temperature control for aircooled Volkswagen engines. This Mesa-style cooler is ideal for engines running external oil systems, especially tuned or high-performance builds where standard cooling is no longer sufficient.
The oil cooler works by circulating hot engine oil through multiple internal cooling plates. As air passes across these plates—assisted by the powerful electric fan—heat is rapidly dissipated, reducing overall oil temperature. This is critical in aircooled engines where oil plays a major role in both lubrication and heat management.
Mesa-cool’s multi-flow path design improves oil circulation while minimising pressure loss, ensuring that oil remains at the correct pressure while still being efficiently cooled. The fluxless oven-brazed aluminium construction provides exceptional strength, making the unit highly resistant to vibration, corrosion, and long-term fatigue—perfect for both road and performance use.
The included 228mm electric fan ensures consistent cooling even in slow traffic or hot conditions where natural airflow is limited. For correct operation, the fan should be controlled via a thermostatic switch and relay, allowing it to activate only when required and maintain optimal oil temperatures.
This is a must-have upgrade for engines with increased power output, larger displacement, or vehicles used for long-distance touring, heavy loads, or hot climates.

FAQs
Universal oil cooler mounts are available HERE
There are no instructions supplied with this cooler but they are simple to install. They have an oil feed in (which comes from your oil pump) and an oil exit (which needs to go back into your crankcase). The electric fan as a positive and negative wire which should be wired to an inline switch to turn it on and off or alternatively we recomend an inline thermostat to automatically turn the fan on and of when it reaches the desired temperature. These can be purchased HERE.
