This top quality ATE rear wheel brake cylinder is designed for aircooled VW applications, including late Volkswagen Type 2 Baywindow models and Volkswagen Type 25 buses. Manufactured to OEM standards, it provides reliable hydraulic braking performance and is a critical component in maintaining safe and consistent rear brake operation.

The wheel cylinder forms part of the drum brake system and works by converting hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder into mechanical force. When the brake pedal is pressed, brake fluid pushes the internal pistons outward (24mm diameter), forcing the brake shoes against the drum to slow the vehicle. Over time, seals inside the cylinder can wear or leak, leading to reduced braking efficiency, spongy pedal feel or fluid loss.

Replacing worn cylinders restores proper brake balance and ensures even braking across the rear axle. This is especially important on classic VW buses where braking performance is vital for safe driving. As this item is sold individually, two are required per vehicle. It is recommended to replace both sides at the same time and inspect related components such as brake shoes, springs, adjusters and brake hoses during installation.
