Beetle Steering Damper (Not 1302 + 1303 Models) - 1962-79 - Top Quality

Premium quality steering damper manufactured by BOGE, designed to restore precise and stable steering on classic aircooled Volkswagen models. Built to OE standards, this damper offers superior damping performance and durability compared to budget alternatives.

The steering damper acts as a horizontal shock absorber within the steering system, mounted between the steering linkage and front axle beam. Its job is to absorb sudden shocks and vibrations caused by uneven road surfaces, preventing them from being transmitted to the steering wheel. This results in smoother steering feel, reduced shimmy, and improved directional stability—particularly at higher speeds.

Over time, original dampers can wear out, leading to vague steering, front-end wobble, and increased driver fatigue. Replacing with a high-quality BOGE unit ensures consistent damping characteristics, longer service life, and a more refined driving experience. Ideal for restorations, daily drivers, and vehicles running wider wheels or upgraded suspension setups.

Important Note:

  • Not suitable for 1302 or 1303 Super Beetle models (MacPherson strut suspension)
