This kit increases your engine capacity to 1641cc by using 87mm pistons while retaining the stock 69mm crankshaft—no case machining required.

For 1300cc engines, you’ll need to machine the cylinder heads to accept the larger 87mm barrels, or simply upgrade to a set of 1600cc dual port heads. On 1600cc engines, the kit fits as a direct upgrade using the existing heads.

Each kit includes everything needed to replace your cylinders and pistons, making it ideal for performance builds, engine rebuilds, or freshening up a tired motor.

Installation Tip:
Check ring gap, piston orientation, and head compatibility before assembly. Use assembly lube on gudgeon pins and torque barrel nuts evenly to avoid warping.

This complete twin port cylinder head is a new 040 casting cylinder head supplied fully assembled with valves and valve springs installed, ready to fit to Volkswagen aircooled 1600cc engines. The cylinder head forms the combustion chamber and houses the valves, valve springs and guides, controlling the flow of air and fuel into the engine and exhaust gases out of the engine. Good cylinder heads are essential for engine performance, cooling and reliability.

This head is fitted with 35.5mm inlet valves and 32mm exhaust valves with 8mm valve stems, which is the standard valve size for 1600cc twin port engines and is suitable for standard engines as well as mild performance builds. The 040 casting is a later improved design with better cooling fin design and improved airflow compared to earlier heads, helping reduce engine temperatures and improve reliability.

The head is machined for 94mm cylinders, meaning it can be used on engines from 1600cc up to 1915cc depending on engine build specification. It uses long reach spark plugs (M14 x 1.25 x 16mm) and has a 58cc combustion chamber.

Being supplied complete with valves and springs makes this an ideal replacement for worn, cracked or damaged original heads, or for new engine builds.

When fitting, it is recommended to also install new pushrod tubes, rocker cover gaskets, cylinder head nuts and washers, and a full engine gasket set.

Replacement rocker cover spring clip for Volkswagen aircooled 1200cc–1600cc Type 1 engines and Type 25 / T3 buses fitted with 1900cc and 2100cc watercooled engines. This spring clip holds the rocker cover firmly against the cylinder head to keep the rocker cover gasket compressed and prevent oil leaks.

Over time, original clips can lose tension due to heat and age, which can cause rocker cover oil leaks. Replacing weak or rusty clips helps maintain proper gasket sealing and prevents oil leaks down the side of the engine.
