Type 1 AS41 Magnesium Crankcase - 85.5mm Bore

This genuine AS41 magnesium crankcase is a direct replacement engine case for aircooled Volkswagen Type 1 engines from 1300cc to 1600cc, and also suitable for 1641cc engines. The crankcase is the main structural part of the engine and houses the crankshaft, camshaft, main bearings, cam bearings and oil pump, while also containing the engine’s internal oil galleries. All major engine components including pistons, barrels and cylinder heads mount to the crankcase, making it the foundation of the entire engine.

This AS41 magnesium case is manufactured to original VW specifications and is lighter than aluminium cases, weighing approximately 25lbs, making it ideal for standard engine rebuilds and original specification restorations. The case features a dual relief oil system, which provides improved oil pressure control and better oil cooling compared to early single relief cases. It also includes 8mm steel case savers for improved head stud strength and a medium oil pick-up tube.

This case includes Baywindow rear mounting points, is compatible with Type 1 and Type 2 dipstick tubes, and includes a Type 3 oil filler hole (blanking plate available separately if not required). This makes the case suitable for Beetle, Bus and Type 3 engine builds.

When building an engine using this case, you may also require crankshaft, camshaft, bearings, oil pump, pistons and barrels, cylinder heads, gasket set, flywheel, head studs and full engine build components.
