Type 1 Aluminium Crankcase - 85.5mm Bore

This aluminium dual relief crankcase is a brand new replacement engine case for aircooled Volkswagen Type 1 engines from 1300cc to 1600cc, and is also suitable for 1641cc builds. The crankcase is the main structural component of the engine, housing the crankshaft, camshaft, oil pump and internal oil galleries. It forms the foundation of the entire engine, with the cylinders, pistons and cylinder heads all mounting to the crankcase.

This Auto Linea aluminium case is significantly stronger than original AS41 magnesium cases, making it ideal for rebuilt or performance engines. The aluminium construction improves rigidity and reduces case flex, which helps maintain correct bearing tolerances and oil pressure, especially in higher performance or long-life engines. The case features a dual relief oil system, which improves oil pressure control and oil cooling by regulating oil flow more efficiently than early single relief cases.

The case is designed for 69mm stroke crankshafts with standard VW con rods and comes with 8mm case savers for improved head stud strength. It includes an oil pick up tube and features stock top contours so it accepts standard fan housings and engine tin. The case also includes mounting provisions for Beetle and Baywindow applications and is compatible with Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 engine configurations.

When building an engine using this case, you may also require main bearings, cam bearings, crankshaft, camshaft, oil pump, pistons and barrels, cylinder heads, gasket set, head studs and full engine build components. Clearancing may be required when fitting counterweighted crankshafts or certain camshaft and oil pump combinations.
