This aluminium dual relief crankcase is a new replacement engine case for aircooled Volkswagen Type 1 engines, machined to accept 90.5mm barrels and pistons, allowing for larger capacity engine builds. The crankcase is the main structural part of the engine, housing the crankshaft, camshaft, main bearings and oil system. All major engine components mount to the crankcase, making it the foundation of any engine build.
This Auto Linea aluminium case is stronger and more rigid than original magnesium cases, making it ideal for performance engines and long-life rebuilds. The dual relief oil system improves oil pressure control and cooling by regulating oil flow more efficiently than early single relief cases. The case is supplied with oil pick up tube fitted, 8mm case savers, and stock top contour to accept standard cooling tin and fan housing.
This case is bored for 90.5mm cylinders, allowing the following engine sizes depending on crankshaft stroke:
Clearancing may be required when fitting stroker crankshafts or certain camshaft and oil pump combinations. This case is suitable for Type 1 upright engines and can be used in Beetle, Bus and Karmann Ghia applications.
