4 Piece Air Deflector Kit - Type 1 Engines - (NOT 1200cc)

This front right air deflector tin is an essential piece of engine cooling tinware for Volkswagen Type 1 upright fan shroud engines. It mounts to the cylinder head shrouds and sits on the right-hand side (driver’s side on RHD vehicles) of the engine, positioned just to the right of the crank pulley when viewed from the rear of the vehicle.

Aircooled VW engines rely entirely on correctly directed airflow for cooling. This deflector plays a crucial role by guiding air from the fan shroud around the cylinders and heads, ensuring even cooling across the engine. Missing or damaged tinware can lead to overheating, hot spots, reduced engine life, and poor overall performance.

Fitting & Installation Notes

• Fits directly to existing engine tin and head shrouds using standard fixings
• Ensure all surrounding tinware is present for correct airflow management
• Check seals and rubber engine bay seals are in good condition to prevent hot air recirculation
• Ideal to replace during engine rebuilds or when refitting engine tin

Replacement left-hand front air deflector engine tinware for VW Type 1 upright aircooled engines from 1300cc to 1600cc.

This panel attaches to the cylinder head shrouds and fits on the left-hand side of the engine, positioned just to the left of the crankshaft pulley when viewed from the rear of the vehicle. It forms an important part of the engine cooling tinware system, helping direct airflow correctly around the engine and preventing hot air recirculation.

Replacement under barrel air deflector plate for aircooled VW Type 1 style engines. This cooling deflector fits between the cylinder head studs above the pushrod tubes and directs cooling air around the underside of the cylinders and through the cooling fins.

Although small, these deflectors are an extremely important part of the VW cooling system and should always be fitted. Without them, cooling air escapes instead of being forced through the cylinder fins, which can lead to poor cooling efficiency, uneven cylinder temperatures and overheating problems.

These deflectors are designed for use with 8mm head stud engines. If fitting to earlier engines with 10mm head studs, the mounting holes can be carefully opened slightly using a small round hand file.

Sold individually. Two required per engine.
