Premium quality fuel tank sender unit manufactured by BBT, designed for late Bay Window buses. This is a high-end reproduction of the original lever arm style sender, built to deliver improved accuracy, durability, and long-term reliability compared to standard aftermarket versions.
The sender fits into the top of the fuel tank using a twist-lock fitting and uses a float arm to measure fuel level. As the float rises and falls with the fuel, it moves an internal contact across a resistor track, sending a variable signal to the dashboard fuel gauge. This unit operates within the correct specification (approx. 72.8 ohms empty to 5.8 ohms full), ensuring smooth and accurate gauge readings.
Lower quality senders can suffer from inconsistent readings, poor internal contacts, or premature wear. This BBT premium version is manufactured with tighter tolerances and higher quality internal components, providing more stable readings and a longer service life—ideal for restorations or customers who want a fit-and-forget solution.
Designed for late Bay models only, from approximately February 1973 onwards (chassis number 2?3 2138 901>>). Earlier models use a tube-style sender and are not compatible.
Installation is straightforward, with the unit twisting into place on the tank. A sealing ring is required (included) and should always be replaced to prevent leaks or fuel vapour escape. It is also recommended to check wiring connections, earth points, and the voltage stabiliser to ensure correct gauge operation.
