Baywindow Bus Fuel Sender - 1973-79

Replacement fuel tank sender unit for late Bay Window buses, designed to accurately measure fuel level and relay this information to the dashboard gauge. This is the later lever arm type sender, which twist-locks into the top of the fuel tank and operates via a float arm mechanism.

As the fuel level rises and falls, the float moves the internal arm, which changes electrical resistance. This varying resistance signal is sent to the fuel gauge, allowing it to display the correct fuel level. This unit operates within the correct resistance range for late Bay models (approx. 72.8 ohms empty to 5.8 ohms full), ensuring accurate and stable gauge readings.

Over time, original senders can suffer from wear, corrosion, or internal electrical faults, leading to inaccurate readings, fluctuating gauges, or complete failure. Replacing the sender restores reliable fuel level indication, which is essential for both daily use and long-distance driving.

This sender is designed for late Bay models only, from approximately February 1973 onwards (chassis number 2?3 2138 901>>). Earlier vehicles use a different tube/cylinder-style sender and are not compatible.

The unit installs by twisting into the tank opening and should be fitted with a sealing ring (not included). It is recommended to replace the seal at the same time to prevent fuel vapour leaks. While installing, check wiring connections, earth points, and the condition of the fuel gauge stabiliser for best results.
