Baywindow Bus Master Cylinder - 1971-79 With Servo Brakes - FTE

Top quality brake master cylinder manufactured by FTE or ATE Brazil for VW Baywindow Buses from 1971 to 1979 fitted with servo-assisted brakes. Manufactured to high standards for reliable braking performance, smooth pedal feel, and long service life, this master cylinder is an excellent upgrade over cheaper reproduction units.

The master cylinder is responsible for converting brake pedal movement into hydraulic pressure for the entire braking system. Internal wear, corrosion, or failing seals can lead to fluid leaks, poor pedal feel, brake fade, or complete loss of hydraulic pressure. Replacing a worn master cylinder is essential for maintaining safe braking performance and reliable stopping power.

This unit is designed primarily for left hand drive Baywindow models, however it can also be adapted for right hand drive vehicles by modifying and rerouting the brake pipes to suit the port configuration. It is also commonly used when upgrading late Splitscreen buses to a safer dual-circuit braking system.

• Brake pipes may require rerouting depending on vehicle specification
• Brake switches should be positioned below the centreline of the master cylinder to prevent trapped air during bleeding
• Brake pedal pushrod must be adjusted to factory specification with approximately 1mm end play
• Pushrod length may require adjustment on some vehicles
