Distributor Cap - 1968-79 - Vacuum Advance, 009 Distributors - BERU

This BERU terracotta distributor cap is a high-quality replacement for many VAG ignition distributors used across classic Volkswagen and Porsche models from the late 1960s through to the 1980s. Manufactured by BERU, an OEM supplier known for ignition components, this cap offers superior insulation, precise internal contacts and long-lasting durability compared to lower-quality alternatives.

Designed for use on 1300cc to 1600cc aircooled engines fitted with vacuum advance or 009-style distributors, this 65mm cap fits securely to the distributor body and provides the critical interface for distributing high voltage from the coil to each spark plug lead. As the rotor arm spins inside the cap, it transfers the spark to each terminal in sequence, ensuring correct firing order and smooth engine operation.

The terracotta phenolic construction is highly resistant to heat, electrical tracking and moisture, making it ideal for both daily drivers and restored classics. A worn or cracked cap can lead to misfires, poor starting and loss of performance, so replacing it with a quality BERU component ensures reliable ignition performance.

Always check your distributor type and cap diameter before ordering. For best results, we recommend replacing the rotor arm, contact points, condenser, spark plug leads and spark plugs at the same time.
