This rear exhaust system is designed specifically for aircooled VW Type 1 engines from 1300cc to 1600cc, offering a reliable and correct replacement for later Beetle and Karmann Ghia models. Manufactured from durable steel and finished in protective grey paint, this exhaust provides both longevity and an authentic factory-style appearance, complete with TÜV/EEC approval for quality and compliance.

Engineered with a cast pre-heat riser on the left (passenger side) and a curved outlet pipe on the right (driver’s side), this exhaust plays a critical role in maintaining proper engine performance. The pre-heat system channels warm exhaust gases beneath the intake manifold, preventing fuel condensation and improving cold running, drivability, and throttle response—especially important on single carburettor setups.

Internally, the exhaust is baffled to balance back pressure and flow, ensuring the engine maintains correct torque characteristics without excessive noise. This design helps preserve the classic aircooled sound while supporting efficient exhaust gas evacuation.

This unit mounts directly to the cylinder heads and heater boxes, forming the core of the exhaust system. For installation, you will require exhaust gaskets, clamps, tailpipes, and fitting hardware, all sold separately. It is also recommended to inspect or replace heater box connections and intake manifold gaskets at the same time to ensure optimal sealing and performance.
