Crankshaft Oil Thrower - Type 1 Engines

Replacement crankshaft oil thrower washer, also commonly known as an oil slinger, for all classic VW aircooled Type 1 based engines. This washer fits onto the nose of the crankshaft behind the crank pulley and plays an important role in controlling engine oil inside the crankcase.

The oil thrower works by spinning with the crankshaft and using centrifugal force to deflect engine oil away from the crank pulley opening. This helps reduce oil leakage from the pulley area and assists the crankcase oil control system, especially on engines that do not use a conventional front crankshaft oil seal.

Over time, original oil throwers can become damaged, bent, corroded, or lost during engine rebuilds. Replacing the oil slinger during an engine rebuild or crankshaft replacement helps maintain proper oil management and reduces the risk of oil escaping behind the pulley.

This part is fitted behind the crank pulley and in front of the crankcase. When replacing this component it is recommended to inspect the crank pulley, woodruff key, pulley shims, crankcase breather system, and pulley fit for wear or damage.
