Metal Camshaft Plug - For Grooved Crankcase

Replacement pressed steel camshaft core plug for use on original Volkswagen aircooled crankcases fitted with a machined retaining groove. This plug seals the rear end of the camshaft gallery in the crankcase and is essential for maintaining correct oil pressure and preventing oil leaks from the rear of the engine case.

Manufactured from pressed steel to original-style specifications, this plug is designed for crankcases using cam bearings and the later large-diameter cam plug arrangement. The outer edge locates securely into the machined groove in the crankcase, creating a reliable seal once installed correctly.

This plug is commonly replaced during engine rebuilds, especially when rebuilding worn or reconditioned crankcases. A damaged, corroded, or incorrectly fitted cam plug can lead to serious oil leaks and loss of engine oil pressure.

Important Fitment Notes

• Fits crankcases with a machined retaining groove only
• Not suitable for late Brazilian replacement cases using the rubber cam plug
• Not suitable for early 1200cc engines up to 1965 using the smaller 27.4mm plug
• Always confirm crankcase type before ordering

How It Works
The camshaft runs inside the crankcase and requires a sealed end cap at the rear of the engine case to contain engine oil and crankcase pressure. This pressed steel plug fits into the machined groove at the rear of the crankcase and prevents oil escaping from the camshaft bore area during engine operation.
