55 AMP Alternator - Type 1 Engines

This 12 volt, 55 amp alternator is a high-quality reproduction unit fitted with an internal voltage regulator, making it an ideal upgrade or replacement for your classic aircooled VW. It mirrors the style and function of the original alternators fitted to later VW models from 1974 to 1979, but is compatible with all years when converting from a dynamo or replacing an older alternator with an external regulator.

The built-in regulator simplifies the engine bay by removing the need for the separate external control box, and the easy-access top cover allows for quick servicing and inspection of the internal components. This alternator provides reliable 55 amp output—perfect for stock setups or mild electrical upgrades.
