This set includes 4 brake shoes—enough to service both left and right rear wheels (one axle/two drums). These are high-quality reproduction shoes with the correct profile for factory drum brakes.

Please Note:
These shoes are not suitable for Syncro models fitted with 16” wheels. If you require shoes for those models, please see part number 291698527GV.

This replacement rear brake drum is designed to fit all VW Type 25 (T3) Buses from the start to the end of production, excluding Syncro models fitted with 16″ wheels. Featuring the correct 5×112 stud pattern, it is a direct replacement for worn or damaged original drums and restores safe, consistent braking performance on standard rear drum–equipped T3 models.

What the part does & how it works

The rear brake drum forms the friction surface for the rear braking system. When the brake pedal is applied, hydraulic pressure forces the brake shoes outward from the wheel cylinder so they contact the inside of the drum. The friction generated slows the rotation of the rear wheels, helping control vehicle speed and stability under braking.

A brake drum with correct diameter and internal height is essential for smooth braking, even shoe contact, and consistent pedal feel. Worn or oval drums can cause grabbing, vibration, or reduced braking efficiency. This replacement drum restores the correct braking geometry and reliable stopping performance.

Fitting notes

• Not for Syncro models.

• Although sold individually, we strongly recommend replacing rear brake drums in pairs to prevent uneven braking and imbalance across the axle.

• Before installation, thoroughly clean the inner braking surface with a good quality brake cleaner, as the drum is coated during manufacture with an anti-oxidising oil to prevent corrosion in storage.

• Always inspect brake shoes, wheel cylinders, springs, and adjusters during installation and replace any worn components for best results.
