EMPI Billet Aluminium Gearshift Coupling - 1964-79

Upgrade your gearshift precision with this billet aluminium shift rod coupler, designed to replace the original rubber-mounted coupling at the rear of the shift linkage. This is a key component in the gear change system, connecting the front shift rod to the gearbox selector shaft.

Over time, standard couplers wear out—especially the internal rubber elements—leading to vague gear selection, excessive play, and missed shifts. This billet version eliminates that weak point by using a solid CNC machined 6061 T6 aluminium construction, delivering a much tighter and more direct connection between the gear lever and gearbox.

By removing flex from the linkage, this coupler ensures gears are exactly where you expect them to be. The result is improved shift accuracy, reduced slop, and a more positive driving feel. It also helps reduce wear on the gearbox by ensuring cleaner engagement, particularly beneficial on performance engines or heavily used vehicles.

Fitted at the rear of the vehicle, this coupler connects directly to the gearbox input shaft. Installation is straightforward, but it is recommended to inspect or replace related components such as the front shift rod bush, gear lever base, and shift rod guide bushes to achieve the best results.
