Beetle EMPI Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit (4x130 PCD) - 1973-79 (IRS Models)

Complete rear disc brake conversion kit for aircooled Volkswagen IRS models with 4×130 stud pattern. Designed to convert the original rear drum brake system to modern rear disc brakes, this EMPI kit provides improved braking performance, better fade resistance and easier servicing compared to standard drum brakes.

Suitable for Beetles from 1973-1979 with Independent Rear Suspension (IRS), this comprehensive kit includes rear brake discs, calipers, mounting brackets, pads, handbrake cables and all fitting hardware required to convert one vehicle.

Rear disc brakes offer more consistent braking under hard use, improved wet weather performance and simpler maintenance compared to traditional rear drum setups. This makes the kit particularly popular for lowered Beetles, performance engines, Baja Bugs and everyday upgraded road cars.

The kit includes integrated handbrake calipers allowing retention of a fully functioning mechanical handbrake system. Supplied handbrake cables measure 68 inches (1727mm) overall length and are designed for late Beetle applications.

This kit can also be used on Split Screen Buses converted to straight axle or IRS suspension setups, however the supplied cables are too short for Bus applications. Split Bus conversions require handbrake cables purchased separately.

We offer both early and late Beetle rear disc kits, with the main difference being handbrake cable length.
