EMPI Single Glass Pack Exhaust System - Type 1 Engines (Not 1200cc)

Single glass pack “cherry bomb” style exhaust system for 1300cc to 1600cc aircooled VW Type 1 engines. This EMPI exhaust gives a loud, distinctive performance sound while remaining suitable for road use, making it a popular choice for Beetles, Buggies, Bajas and custom aircooled builds.

The system uses a small flange header with an offset muffler position and a chrome tailpipe exiting to the offside of the vehicle. The glass pack silencer uses a straight-through perforated core wrapped in fibreglass packing, helping reduce back pressure while giving the exhaust its classic sharp, loud tone.

This exhaust is designed primarily around the VW Beetle, with the muffler angle set to suit the Beetle rear wing. It can be fitted to other Type 1 based aircooled VW models, but the muffler angle may not line up perfectly with the rear bodywork.

Important Fitment Notes

• Designed mainly for Beetle rear bodywork and wing angle
• Can be fitted to other VW models, but muffler angle may not sit perfectly with the body
• Header is offset, not central
• Header flange sits at approximately the 1 o’clock position
• 1974 Beetles with AR engine numbers may require the original exhaust unless converted from twin hotspot to the more common single hotspot arrangement
• Very loud exhaust note

Finish Notice

EMPI headers and mufflers are supplied with a black protective paint coating. This coating is designed to protect the exhaust during storage and transport only and is not a high temperature finish. It may burn off once the exhaust gets hot.

For best results, clean the coating off with a suitable solvent before fitting and repaint the exhaust with quality high temperature exhaust paint. Exhaust systems and chrome finishes are not warranted against rust due to the extreme heat and conditions they operate in.
