EMPI standard diameter sand seal pulley kit for all Type 1 aircooled Volkswagen engines. Designed primarily for off-road and high dust environment use, this pulley kit helps prevent dirt, sand, and grit from being drawn into the engine through the crankshaft pulley opening.
Unlike standard factory pulleys which use an oil scroll design, sand seal pulleys use a dedicated rubber crankshaft seal to provide a positive seal around the pulley hub. This greatly reduces the risk of contaminants entering the engine, making these pulleys ideal for Baja Bugs, Buggies, off-road Beetles, sand rails, and performance street engines.
This pulley is manufactured from billet aluminium in standard stock diameter sizing and features the classic 5-hole design with black degree timing marks and numbers for easier ignition timing adjustment and engine tuning.
The kit includes the bolt-in aluminium sand seal collar along with the orange crankshaft seal. The bolt-in design allows installation without machining the crankcase, making fitting simple and convenient for most engines.
Please note that sand seal pulleys require a longer crankshaft pulley bolt due to the additional pulley thickness. A suitable extra long pulley bolt such as AC1059118 must be purchased separately.
Replacement seals and collars are also available separately for future servicing.
