Passat B5 Rear Brake Caliper (245mm Brake Discs) - Right (Lucus)

This replacement rear brake caliper is designed for VW Passat B5 4Motion models built from May 1997 to May 2005. It is manufactured to suit vehicles equipped with the Lucas / TRW braking system and is supplied for the rear axle right, which on right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles corresponds to the drivers side.

The caliper is a fist-type (single-piston) design with a 38mm piston, intended for use with solid rear brake discs measuring 245mm diameter and 10mm thickness. This setup is commonly used on Passat B5 4Motion models to provide stable, well-balanced rear braking performance.

How it works

When the brake pedal is applied, hydraulic pressure forces the 38mm piston outward, pressing the inner brake pad against the disc. The caliper body then reacts against the carrier, pulling the outer pad into contact. This clamping action converts vehicle momentum into heat through friction, helping to stabilise the vehicle under braking and support the front braking system.

On vehicles fitted with rear disc brakes, the rear calipers also play a key role in maintaining brake balance and supporting ABS and traction systems fitted to 4Motion models.
