Passat B5 Rear Brake Caliper (245mm Brake Discs) - Left (Lucus)

This replacement rear brake caliper is designed for VW Passat B5 models built from October 1996 onwards, covering both early and later production vehicles where PR codes 1KD or 1KF are fitted. It is manufactured specifically for vehicles equipped with the LUCAS braking system and is supplied for the rear axle left, which on right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles is the passenger side.
The caliper features a single 38mm piston and is designed for use with solid rear brake discs measuring 245mm diameter and 10mm thickness. This version includes an integrated mechanical handbrake mechanism, making it suitable for vehicles where the parking brake operates directly through the rear calipers.
How it works
During normal braking, hydraulic pressure pushes the 38mm piston outward, forcing the inner pad against the disc. The caliper body then reacts to clamp the outer pad, creating friction that slows the vehicle.
When the handbrake is applied, the integrated parking brake mechanism inside the caliper mechanically operates the piston, holding the pads against the disc without hydraulic pressure. This combined design keeps the rear braking system compact and ensures reliable parking brake operation.
