9N Polo Rear Brake Caliper (232mm Brake Discs) - Right (Lucus)

This rear right brake caliper is a direct replacement for Volkswagen Polo Mk4 (9N) models fitted with PR codes 1KD, 1KS or 2EJ rear brake systems. On RHD vehicles, this caliper fits the driver side (right-hand side) of the rear axle and is designed to work with 232 mm solid rear brake discs with a 9 mm thickness.
Manufactured to suit LUCAS braking systems, this caliper features a single 34 mm piston and an integrated mechanical parking brake mechanism, combining service braking and handbrake operation into one compact, reliable unit.
What this rear brake caliper does
The rear brake caliper converts hydraulic brake pressure into mechanical clamping force, pressing the brake pads against the rear disc to slow the vehicle. In addition, the integrated parking brake mechanism allows the handbrake to mechanically apply braking force to the rear wheels when parked.
How it works
During normal braking, hydraulic pressure pushes the 34 mm piston outward, forcing the inner brake pad onto the disc. The caliper body then slides to apply the outer pad, creating even braking force on both sides of the disc.
When the handbrake is applied, a mechanical screw mechanism inside the caliper advances the piston independently of hydraulic pressure. This design removes the need for separate drum handbrake components and ensures reliable parking brake operation.

PR codes 1KD, 1KS and 2EJ

Fitting position: Rear axle right (driver side on RHD models)
Brake pads: Always replace rear brake pads when fitting a new caliper
Brake carrier: Not included – inspect for corrosion or wear
Handbrake cable: Check for free movement; replace if seized or stretched
Brake fluid: System must be bled after installation
Tools: Rear caliper wind-back tool required for piston reset
For balanced braking performance and even wear, replacing rear brake calipers in axle pairs is strongly recommended.
