Porsche 356 Rear Brake Drum Oil Deflector - 1951-59

This oil deflector plate is a vital component fitted inside the rear brake drums of all Porsche 356 and Porsche 356 A models from 1951 to 1959. Its primary role is to protect the rear braking system by preventing gearbox oil from travelling down the swing axle and contaminating the brake linings.
What this oil deflector does
On swing axle transmissions, gearbox oil naturally migrates along the axle tubes during operation. The oil deflector plate sits inside the rear brake drum and acts as a physical barrier, deflecting any oil away from the brake shoes and drum friction surface.
Without a correctly functioning oil deflector, gear oil can seep onto the brake linings, dramatically reducing braking efficiency and creating a serious safety risk. This small but crucial part ensures the rear brakes remain dry, effective, and predictable under all driving conditions.
Why replacement is important
Original oil deflector plates are frequently found to be:
Heavily corroded due to age and exposure
Bent or damaged during previous brake drum removal
