Mk3 Caddy Rear Brake Caliper (256mm Brake Discs) - Left (TRW)

This replacement rear brake caliper is designed to fit VW Caddy Mk3 (Caddy III) models from March 2004 to May 2015, equipped with TRW braking systems. It is the correct left-hand rear caliper for vehicles using solid rear brake discs and includes an integrated mechanical parking brake mechanism.

On RHD vehicles, this caliper fits the left-hand side (passenger side).

What the part does & how it works

The rear brake caliper performs two vital roles on the Caddy Mk3:

1. Service braking – When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure forces the internal piston outward, clamping the brake pads against the rear brake disc to slow the vehicle.

2. Parking brake operation – This caliper incorporates an internal handbrake mechanism, which mechanically applies the brake when the handbrake lever is pulled, holding the vehicle securely when parked.

This caliper uses a single-piston floating design, allowing it to self-centre over the disc as the pads wear. This ensures even braking force, smooth operation, and consistent pad wear. A seized or worn caliper can cause dragging brakes, uneven pad wear, MOT failures, or poor handbrake performance—replacement restores correct braking and handbrake function.

Important fitment note:
This caliper is TRW-specific and will only fit vehicles with PR codes 1LJ or 1ZE and 256x12mm solid rear brake discs. It will not fit vehicles equipped with alternative brake manufacturers. Always check the PR code on the vehicle data sticker before ordering.

Fitting notes

• Sold individually, however we strongly recommend replacing rear brake calipers in axle pairs to ensure balanced braking and correct handbrake operation.

• Always inspect brake pads, discs, handbrake cables, and flexible hoses when replacing a caliper.

• The braking system must be fully bled after installation.

• The handbrake mechanism should be correctly adjusted after fitting.
