Mk1 Crafter Rear Brake Caliper (298mm Brake Discs) - Left (Bosch)

This replacement rear brake caliper is designed for VW Crafter I models from April 2006 to December 2016, fitted with BOSCH braking systems and solid rear brake discs. It is the correct caliper for vehicles using 298mm diameter x 16mm thick rear discs and matching PR codes 0WC or 0WL.

On RHD vehicles, this caliper fits the left-hand side (passenger side).

What the part does & how it works

The rear brake caliper converts hydraulic brake pressure into clamping force. When the brake pedal is applied, brake fluid pressure pushes the internal piston outward, forcing the brake pads against the rear brake disc. The friction created slows the wheel and helps stabilise the vehicle under braking.

This caliper uses a single-piston floating design, allowing it to self-centre over the disc as the brake pads wear. This ensures even pad contact, smooth braking operation, and reduced uneven pad wear—particularly important on commercial vehicles that regularly carry heavy loads.

A worn, sticking, or leaking caliper can cause pulling under braking, dragging brakes, overheating, or premature pad wear. Replacing the caliper restores correct braking balance, smooth pedal feel, and reliable stopping performance.

Important fitment note:
This caliper is BOSCH-specific and will only fit vehicles equipped with solid 298x16mm rear brake discs and PR codes 0WC or 0WL. It will not fit vehicles with alternative brake manufacturers or different disc sizes.

Fitting notes

• Sold individually, however we strongly recommend replacing rear brake calipers in axle pairs to maintain even braking performance.

• Always inspect brake pads, discs, flexible hoses, and mounting hardware when replacing a caliper.

• The braking system must be fully bled after installation.

• Replacing brake pads at the same time is strongly advised for best results.
