This right-hand front brake caliper is the correct replacement for early VW Baywindow buses built from August 1970 to July 1972. These models use a one-year–specific early disc brake caliper design, which differs from later Baywindow calipers and must be identified correctly before ordering.
This caliper fits the driver’s side on RHD vehicles and is manufactured to original early Baywindow specification to ensure safe, balanced braking performance.
How to identify the correct caliper
Early Baywindow calipers can be clearly identified by the following characteristics:
12mm mounting bolts securing the caliper to the spindle
47mm brake pad gap
Later Baywindow models (1973–1979) use 14mm mounting bolts and a 55mm pad gap – this caliper will not fit those vehicles
If your bus matches these specifications, this is the correct right-hand caliper.
What the part does & how it works
The brake caliper is responsible for converting hydraulic pressure into clamping force. When the brake pedal is applied, brake fluid pressure pushes the piston inside the caliper, forcing the brake pads against the brake disc. The friction generated slows the wheel and brings the vehicle to a controlled stop.
A worn, corroded, or sticking caliper can cause pulling under braking, uneven pad wear, overheating, or reduced stopping power. Replacing the caliper restores smooth braking action, correct pad alignment, and consistent pedal feel.

Fitting notes
Calipers are sold individually, however we strongly recommend replacing calipers in axle pairs to maintain even braking performance.
Always inspect brake discs, pads, hoses, and hard lines when replacing a caliper.
The braking system must be bled thoroughly after installation.
Replacing brake pads at the same time is strongly advised.
