This 46mm rear axle nut is a good quality reproduction designed to secure the rear brake drum to the axle on classic VW Buses. This version features the 6-crown castellated design, which was originally used on Splitscreen Buses from August 1963 to July 1967, and throughout the production of Baywindow Buses (1968–1979).
The castellated (or “crowned”) design is made to work with a split pin for secure locking, preventing the nut from loosening under load or vibration. A crucial part of the rear hub assembly, this nut ensures the brake drum stays properly torqued to the axle—essential for safe and reliable braking performance.
Note:
This 6-crown version is not suitable for Type 25 (T3) Buses, which use a 10-crown nut. If you need the 10-crown version, see part number N90149601.
One nut is required per rear hub. Sold individually.
Whether you`re restoring a vintage VW Bus or simply replacing worn or damaged components, this axle nut is a must-have for maintaining correct factory-spec fitment and safety.
