G2 Speedo Cable - RHD - 1.8 16v (KR,PL)

Replacement speedometer cable for right hand drive VW Golf Mk2 models fitted with the 1.8 16V petrol engine and manual gearbox. This cable runs from the gearbox speedometer drive to the rear of the instrument cluster, transferring the gearbox output rotation into a speed reading on the dash.

A worn or damaged speedo cable can cause an inaccurate or bouncing speedometer needle, intermittent speed reading, clicking noises behind the dash, or complete speedometer failure. Replacing the cable restores a smooth and reliable speedometer reading.

This cable is specifically for RHD vehicles, where the routing differs from LHD models. On right hand drive cars, the right side is the driver’s side and the left side is the passenger side.

Fitting Notes

The cable connects into the gearbox speedo drive at one end and the instrument cluster at the other. When fitting, route the cable smoothly with no sharp bends or kinks, as tight bends can cause needle bounce or premature cable wear. Check the gearbox speedo drive, retaining clip, grommet and instrument cluster connection before installation, as worn related parts can also cause speedometer faults.
