G1 Gear Shift Selector Rod - 1978-93 - 5 Speed Models (Straight)

Replacement gear shift selector rod for VW 5 speed manual gearboxes fitted to various Mk1 platform models. This straight selector rod forms part of the gear linkage system and connects the external shift mechanism to the gearbox selector assembly, helping provide accurate gear selection and smooth shifting.

Over time the original selector rod can become worn, bent or corroded, leading to vague gear changes, difficulty selecting gears or excessive play in the linkage system. Replacing worn linkage components can dramatically improve gearshift feel and restore proper gearbox operation.

This selector rod is designed for 1.5 to 1.8 litre models using the 5 speed transmission setup.

Fitting Notes

It is recommended to inspect the complete gear linkage system during installation including bushes, relay levers, clips and linkage joints, as wear in other components can also affect gear selection quality.
