Beetle Clutch Cross Shaft - 1973-79 - Fully Welded

This fully welded clutch cross shaft is a strong, high-quality upgrade designed for early Beetles, Karmann Ghias and Type 3 models from 1973 to 1979, as well as Buggies and Bajas running the same gearbox setup. Installed inside the gearbox bell housing, the cross shaft is responsible for transferring movement from the clutch pedal and cable to the clutch release bearing. A worn or cracked cross shaft can lead to stiff clutch action, poor release, or complete failure—especially on higher-performance engines where clutch pressure is significantly increased.

To withstand these increased loads, this upgraded shaft is 360-degree welded around both arms, eliminating the weak points found on original spot-welded units. This heavy-duty construction prevents twisting or arm breakage under hard use, making it ideal for stock replacements or performance builds. The centre of the shaft supports the later-style clutch release bearings with integral clips, ensuring smooth, positive engagement and easy installation.

Manufactured to OE-spec dimensions for a perfect fit, this shaft provides long service life and reliable operation whether used on road-going classics or off-road Buggies and Bajas.
