Beetle Clutch Cross Shaft - 1961-70 (Also Splitscreen Bus 1964-67) - Fully Welded

Heavy-duty welded clutch cross shaft designed for early aircooled Volkswagen gearboxes using the early style clutch release bearing with retaining clips. This strengthened cross shaft is an ideal upgrade for both standard replacement use and high performance engines where increased clutch pressure can place extra strain on the original factory shaft assembly.

Manufactured with fully welded operating arms, this upgraded version is welded 360 degrees around each arm to prevent the common problem of the arms cracking or breaking away from the shaft under heavy clutch loads. This makes it particularly suitable for vehicles fitted with uprated pressure plates, performance clutches and larger capacity engines.

The clutch cross shaft is located inside the gearbox bellhousing and operates the clutch release bearing via the clutch cable mechanism. As the clutch pedal is pressed, the shaft rotates and moves the release bearing against the pressure plate to disengage the clutch.

This unit is designed specifically for use with early style release bearings that use the separate retaining clips. Ideal for Beetles, Ghias, Type 3s and Split Screen Buses retaining the early clutch operating system.

We recommend inspecting the bushes, release bearing clips and clutch operating arm during installation and replacing worn components where necessary.
