Distributor Drive Pinion Spring - All Aircooled and Waterboxer Engines

This distributor drive spring is an essential small part with a big job. It fits into the top of the distributor drive pinion, helping to maintain proper engagement and positioning of the distributor drive shaft. Without this spring, the distributor may lift slightly during engine operation, leading to potential timing issues or inefficient ignition performance.

Designed for all aircooled Volkswagen engines from 1200cc to 2000cc, this spring is a direct-fit replacement and is ideal for use in standard maintenance, distributor swaps, or complete engine rebuilds. It works by applying upward pressure to keep the drive pinion fully seated in the crankcase bore, ensuring consistent drive to the distributor rotor from the crankshaft.

To correctly install the distributor drive pinion and spring, 2 or 3 shims are typically required to achieve the correct height and spacing. These shims (available separately under part number 111105235A) help tailor the fit depending on whether you’re working with an aircooled or watercooled engine configuration.
