G3 Water Flange - 1.6 (Automatic Models)

This coolant flange is specifically designed for automatic transmission models and is mounted on the engine as part of the cooling system coolant outlet assembly. The flange allows coolant to circulate between the engine, radiator, heater system, and automatic transmission cooling circuit where applicable. On automatic vehicles, the cooling system often also helps regulate transmission oil temperature via a heat exchanger, which is why this flange differs from manual transmission versions.

The flange connects coolant hoses and temperature sensors and provides a sealed outlet from the engine. Over time, these plastic flanges become brittle and can crack or leak from the mounting face or around the hose connections, which may lead to coolant loss or overheating. Replacing the flange restores proper coolant flow and sealing, helping maintain correct engine and transmission operating temperatures.

When replacing this flange, it is recommended to also inspect or replace the base seal, hose clips, temperature sensors, and O-rings, as these components commonly wear and are often the cause of leaks around the flange area.
