This replacement metal inlet manifold gasket is used to seal the inlet manifold to the cylinder head on Type 4 1700cc and 2000cc aircooled engines fitted to VW Baywindow buses. A proper seal at this joint is critical, as any air leak here will allow unmetered air into the engine, leading to poor idle, uneven running, hesitation, and lean mixture conditions.
The gasket sits between the inlet manifold flange and the cylinder head, creating a tight, heat-resistant seal that prevents air leaks while withstanding the high temperatures found in the engine bay. Over time, original gaskets can fatigue, corrode, or fail when manifolds are removed for maintenance, making replacement essential whenever the inlet manifold is disturbed.
Manufactured from good-quality metal, this gasket provides a durable and reliable seal, ensuring consistent airflow and helping maintain correct engine performance. It is strongly recommended to replace these gaskets during carburettor work, inlet manifold removal, or engine rebuilds to avoid future vacuum leaks and drivability issues.
This gasket is sold individually, with four required per engine—one for each inlet port.
Note: This gasket is not suitable for 1800cc Baywindow buses. For those applications, please use part number 021129707E.
