Oil Strainer - Type 4 Engines

This replacement oil strainer is designed for all Volkswagen Type 4 air-cooled engines in 1700cc, 1800cc, and 2000cc form. It is fitted to Baywindow Buses, early air-cooled Type 25 (T3) Buses, and Porsche 914 models using Type 4 engines.

The oil strainer sits in the sump and acts as the engine’s first line of defence against contamination. Its gauze screen filter traps larger debris and particles before oil is drawn into the lubrication system, helping protect vital internal components such as the crankshaft, bearings, and camshaft. A damaged, blocked, or missing strainer can allow contaminants to circulate, accelerating engine wear and reducing engine life.

Manufactured as a good quality reproduction, this strainer features a durable aluminium body with a correctly sized 28.2mm oil bore, ensuring proper oil flow while maintaining effective filtration. It is ideal for routine servicing, engine rebuilds, or replacement of tired original strainers.

When fitting a new oil strainer, it is strongly recommended to replace the sump gaskets to ensure a leak-free oil change.
