This complete Type 4 cylinder head is designed for 1800cc and 2000cc engines fitted to VW T2 Baywindow models from 1973 to 1978. Manufactured specifically for engines using stepped / oval exhaust ports, this head is supplied without EGR holes, making it ideal for non-EGR applications and cleaner engine bay layouts.
A key feature of this cylinder head is the improved head sealing surface, which eliminates the need for traditional cylinder barrel sealing rings. This design enhances head-to-barrel sealing reliability, reduces the risk of compression leaks, and simplifies engine assembly—particularly beneficial during rebuilds or upgrades of Type 4 engines.
The head is supplied fully assembled, including:

This ensures a comprehensive, ready-to-install solution, saving time and ensuring compatibility between all critical components.
With 39.3mm inlet valves and 33mm exhaust valves, this head offers excellent airflow characteristics suitable for standard and mildly uprated Type 4 engines, supporting smooth power delivery and efficient combustion. The 8mm valve stems provide strength and durability, while maintaining compatibility with original-style valvetrain components.
Please note: the threaded hole located to the left of the inlet manifold flange is intended for a fuel injection system temperature sensor. If your engine is running carburettors, this threaded port is not required and can simply be left unused.
Ideal for restorations, engine rebuilds, or performance-refresh projects where reliability, correct fitment, and long-term sealing integrity are essential.

Yes you can use these heads on Big Bore 96mm barrels and pistons.
Yes CU heads are different to CA heads. CA heads are for use on 1700cc engines and have a bore of 90mm. CU heads are for use on 2000cc engines and have a bore of 94mm. They also use a different exhaust system as the manifold ports are a different shape.
