G1,G2,G3 Gearbox Drive Flange Seal

This gearbox drive flange oil seal is designed to prevent transmission oil leaks where the driveshaft flange exits the gearbox casing. It is a critical sealing component that sits in the gearbox housing and seals against the rotating drive flange, keeping gearbox oil inside while preventing dirt, moisture, and road debris from entering the transmission.

Manufactured to the correct dimensions of 50 x 65 x 10mm, this seal is suitable for use on most classic and modern Volkswagen front-wheel-drive manual gearboxes. The seal features a precision-moulded lip that maintains constant contact with the drive flange as it rotates, ensuring a reliable oil-tight seal even under load and during temperature changes.

Over time, drive flange seals can harden, crack, or wear, leading to gearbox oil leaks. Common symptoms include oil residue around the inner CV joint, drops of oil under the vehicle, or low gearbox oil levels. Replacing this seal restores proper sealing, helps maintain correct lubrication inside the gearbox, and protects bearings and gears from premature wear.

This seal is commonly fitted to:

  • VW Mk1 Golf

  • VW Mk2 Golf

  • VW Mk3 Golf

  • VW Caddy

  • VW Corrado

  • VW Scirocco

  • VW Jetta

  • VW Vento

When replacing the drive flange seal, it is recommended to inspect the drive flange surface for wear or corrosion and to check the condition of the driveshaft CV joint. In some cases, new drive flange bolts, a flange O-ring (if fitted), or fresh gearbox oil may also be required to complete the installation correctly.
