1.4 Litre Deep Sump - Type 1 Engines

This aluminium deep sump is designed to fit all Type 1 aircooled crankcases, increasing your engine’s oil capacity by an additional 1.4 litres. By holding more oil and keeping it cooler for longer, this sump helps improve overall engine cooling efficiency and reduces the risk of oil starvation—especially important on engines used for motorway cruising, spirited driving, or off-road applications.

Constructed from finned aluminium, the sump enhances heat dissipation far better than a standard steel sump plate. The additional oil volume helps stabilise temperatures, maintain oil pressure, and prolong engine life. Finned surfaces also promote consistent cooling during long runs or high-load conditions.

At 70mm deep when fitted, the sump stays compact enough for road use while still offering a significant increase in capacity. The kit is supplied with all necessary hardware, making installation straightforward. It replaces the stock sump plate and bolts directly to the crankcase using extended studs and the supplied gaskets.
