Engle W140 Camshaft - Type 1 Engines

The Engle W140 performance camshaft is a race-only camshaft designed for extreme high-performance VW Type 1 aircooled engines. This cam is intended for large-displacement, high-RPM competition engines where maximum airflow, aggressive valve timing, and sustained high engine speeds are required. It is not suitable for road use and should only be installed in properly prepared racing engines.

With its very long duration and high lift figures, the W140 pushes the power band high into the RPM range, delivering exceptional top-end performance at the expense of low-speed drivability. This camshaft is best suited to engines running large valve cylinder heads, very high compression ratios, twin carburettors or fuel injection, and a free-flowing race exhaust system. Correct component matching is absolutely critical to take full advantage of this cam profile.

Manufactured to Engle’s exacting standards, the W140 features precision-ground lobes and proven race timing profiles that have been successfully used in drag racing, circuit racing, and other competitive motorsport applications. When installed and set up correctly, it offers maximum performance potential and durability under extreme operating conditions.

Important Fitment Notes

  • Racing use only – not suitable for street driving

  • Requires an early-style 3-bolt cam gear

  • Compatible with up to 1971-style oil pumps only

  • Camshaft supplied on its own – cam gear is not included

  • Suitable 3-bolt cam gears are available separately (see associated products)
