The Engle W110 performance camshaft is a proven and extremely popular upgrade for VW Type 1 aircooled engines based around 1200cc to 1600cc units. Designed for street use, the W110 delivers strong low and mid-range power while still allowing the engine to pull well into higher RPM, making it ideal for fast-road cars that want a noticeable performance increase without sacrificing everyday drivability.
Compared to milder camshafts, the W110 offers increased duration and lift, improving cylinder filling and airflow through the engine. This results in stronger acceleration, improved throttle response, and a wider usable power band. It works especially well in engines fitted with twin carburettors, a free-flow exhaust, and a sensible compression ratio, making it a favourite choice for spirited road-driven Beetles and other Type 1-powered vehicles.
Manufactured to Engle’s exacting standards, the W110 camshaft features precision-ground lobes and consistent timing profiles for reliable performance and long service life. When correctly matched with supporting components, it offers an excellent balance between street manners and performance potential.
Important Fitment Notes
Requires an early-style 3-bolt cam gear
Compatible with up to 1971-style oil pumps only
Camshaft supplied on its own – cam gear is not included

Correct matching of cam gear, oil pump, lifters, and valve train components is essential for successful installation.
