These Engle 28mm phosphate coated cam lifters with EDM oiling holes represent the ultimate lifter upgrade for high-performance VW Type 1 aircooled engines, particularly those running high-lift, aggressive camshafts and increased valve spring pressures. They are widely regarded as a must-have component for serious fast-road, race, and endurance engine builds.

Each lifter features a 28mm diameter head and weighs approximately 100 grams, providing the ideal balance between strength and controlled valvetrain mass. The larger lifter face distributes load more evenly across the cam lobe, reducing contact stress and helping to prevent camshaft wear in demanding applications.

The addition of a precision EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) oiling hole through the lifter face is a key performance advantage. This EDM hole directs a constant supply of pressurised engine oil directly onto the cam lobe–lifter interface, significantly improving lubrication where it is needed most. This dramatically reduces friction and heat, extending camshaft and lifter life—especially critical with high lift cams and heavy duty or dual valve springs.

The phosphate coating further enhances protection during initial start-up and cam break-in by providing a sacrificial lubricating layer before full oil pressure is established. When combined with proper assembly lube and correct break-in procedures, these lifters offer excellent reliability and longevity.
