Engle Adjustable Cam Gear - Type 1 Engines

This adjustable cam gear from ENGLE Cams is a precision-machined aluminium camshaft gear designed for use on all Engle camshafts and most aftermarket camshafts fitted to VW Type 1 aircooled engines. It allows accurate adjustment of camshaft timing during engine assembly, making it an essential component for performance builds, blueprinting, and fine-tuning engine characteristics.

Unlike a fixed cam gear, this adjustable version features multiple pre-drilled bolt holes that allow the camshaft to be mounted in different indexed positions relative to the crankshaft. By selecting different bolt positions when fastening the camshaft to the gear, the cam timing can be advanced or retarded in small, controlled increments. This enables you to optimise valve timing for your specific engine combination, compression ratio, cam profile, and intended use—whether that’s improved low-end torque, stronger mid-range power, or better top-end performance.

Manufactured from high-quality aluminium, the gear is lightweight yet strong, helping to reduce rotating mass within the engine while maintaining excellent durability.
