This rear brake caliper is a direct replacement for Volkswagen Transporter T4 Buses fitted with PR Code 2E2, covering vehicles built from May 1996 to November 1996, up to chassis number 70-V-120000.
Designed for the left-hand side (passenger side on RHD vehicles), this caliper is manufactured to suit the Lucas rear brake system and features an integrated mechanical handbrake mechanism, ensuring both service braking and parking brake functions operate correctly.
The caliper is designed to work with solid rear brake discs measuring 280mm diameter and 12mm thickness, as fitted to these specific T4 models. With a 38mm single piston, it delivers reliable clamping force while maintaining smooth, even pad wear.
As with all brake components, it is strongly recommended to replace rear brake calipers in pairs. Changing both sides at the same time helps prevent uneven braking, sticking pistons, and inconsistent handbrake operation.
How it works
When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure forces the piston inside the caliper to clamp the brake pads against the disc, slowing the vehicle. The integrated handbrake mechanism mechanically operates the piston when the handbrake lever is applied, locking the rear wheels securely when parked.
