This front brake caliper is a direct replacement for the front right-hand side (driver’s side on RHD models) of Volkswagen Transporter T4 vans built from September 1990 to December 1995 with PR Code 1LA. It is designed specifically for vehicles fitted with 260mm x 16mm solid front brake discs and 14-inch factory wheels, ensuring correct fitment, clearance, and braking performance.

Manufactured for GIRLING braking systems, this caliper features a single 54mm piston and a floating caliper design. When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure forces the piston to push the inner brake pad against the disc. The floating mechanism then allows the caliper body to slide, pulling the outer pad into contact at the same time. This design provides even clamping force across the disc, delivering stable braking performance and consistent pad wear.

Brake calipers are a critical safety component and are prone to wear over time due to heat, moisture, and road contamination. Common faults include sticking pistons, seized slider pins, or leaking seals, all of which can cause uneven braking, pulling to one side, or excessive brake wear.
