What this rear brake drum does

The rear brake drum provides the friction surface for the rear brake shoes. When braking, the shoes expand outward against the inside of the drum, generating friction that slows the vehicle. How it works

As the rear wheels rotate, the brake drum turns with them. When hydraulic pressure is applied, the wheel cylinder forces the brake shoes outward so they contact the inner drum surface. This friction converts kinetic energy into heat, slowing the vehicle in a controlled and predictable manner.
