Type 25 Syncro Rear Brake Drum - For Use On Models With 16" Wheels

This replacement rear brake drum is designed specifically for all VW Type 25 (T3) Syncro models fitted with 16″ wheels, covering vehicles from the start of production through to the end. Featuring the correct 5×112 stud pattern, this drum is a direct-fit replacement for original Syncro 16″ rear brake drums and is essential for maintaining correct braking performance on these heavy-duty four-wheel-drive models.

What the part does & how it works

The rear brake drum provides the friction surface for the rear braking system. When the brake pedal is applied, hydraulic pressure forces the brake shoes outward from the wheel cylinder so they press against the inside of the drum. The resulting friction slows the rotation of the rear wheels, helping control vehicle speed and stability, particularly important on Syncro models designed for off-road and load-carrying use.

Correct drum diameter and internal height are critical on 16″ Syncro models, as they use a unique rear brake setup compared to standard 14″ T3s. A worn or incorrect drum can lead to poor braking efficiency, uneven shoe wear, or brake judder. This replacement drum restores the correct braking geometry and reliable stopping power.

This drum is only suitable for Syncro 16″ models and will not fit standard 14″ Type 25 / T3 buses.

Fitting notes

• Although sold individually, we strongly recommend replacing rear brake drums in pairs to avoid uneven braking and imbalance across the axle.

• Before installation, clean the inner braking surface thoroughly with a good quality brake cleaner, as the drum is coated at manufacture with an anti-oxidising oil to protect it during storage.

• While fitting, inspect brake shoes, wheel cylinders, springs, and adjusters, replacing any worn or damaged components to ensure optimal braking performance.
