This complete left-hand bullet indicator assembly with a clear lens is a high-quality reproduction part for early Volkswagen Splitscreen Buses built up to 1964. Supplied as a full ready-to-install unit, it includes the base, clear lens, rubber seal and bulb holder, providing an authentic early-Bus appearance suitable for restorations, show builds or period-correct upgrades.
This bullet-style indicator was factory-fitted to:
US-market Splitscreen Buses from 1956 to 1961
European Splitscreens from 1958 to July 1963
During this era, Volkswagen transitioned away from semaphores. The US market adopted flashing indicators in March 1955, while most other countries continued using semaphores until June 1960, at which point these bullet indicators were introduced.
In August 1961, the U.S. model year change brought the flatter “fish-eye” indicators and larger tail lights. The rest of the world didn’t adopt these later indicators until August 1963, making this clear-lens bullet unit correct for pre-1961 US vehicles and pre-1963 Euro-spec restorations depending on lens preference.
Designed for the left side (passenger side on RHD models), this assembly replicates the correct early styling, proportions and mounting pattern, making it suitable for both concours restorations and high-quality repairs.
